The ceramics of Burgio
Burgio is a small town in the province of Agrigento, about 40 minutes from Montallegro. With its Jewish quarter, this town is famous for its enamelled ceramics, typically coloured yellow and green.
To watch a lump of clay being transformed on the potter's wheel as it is modelled by expert hands, is a unique experience that it is still possible to enjoy today by visiting the Caravella workshop right here in Burgio. In this boutique, except for the furnace that is certainly more recent, time seems to stand still and the production of terracotta is carried out as in the past, as tradition commands. All the objects are entirely made by hand, and therefore unique. You can round off your excursion with a visit to the Burgio Ceramics Museum housed in the ex monastery next to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. A dive into the past, an experience that will stay in your heart.
